Today is International Coffee Day and perfect time for me to share a few of my new coffee shop /cafe finds which I’ve had the pleasure of visiting literally over the last week or so.  As a big coffee fan I’m always up for visiting somewhere new and sampling the wares on offer and I’ve been fortunate enough to meet the owners all of all of the coffee shops too.  Each owner, has generously shared with me their story from conception to start up and without a doubt it’s great to meet such passionate coffee and food fans, whose love of their product, brand and coffee shines through as you talk to them.  Of the four places listed below, three have opened literallly in the last two weeks, with the fourth being a little more mature but still within the first fifty days of business.   So here goes, here are a few more new shops for you to check out :

Bean Machine – Bay Avenue, Business Bay

Situated in Bay Avenue in the heart of Business Bay, this coffee shop had been opened for about three days when I was invited to visit.  Coffee is provided by Raw Coffee and all the sandwiches and pastries are made on site in the kitchen behind the shop.  Throughout the shop there was a great smell of freshly baked cookies as a batch was being baked as I walked in.  I was fortunate enough to sample a range of sandwiches and sweet treats and loved the cheesecake brownie as well as the red velvet cupcakes which were big enough to be a sweet treat but not too big to give me a sugar rush.  The sandwiches were filled with great quality fillings and were tasty too.  As for the barista, he made a great cup of coffee complete with some great latte art.  This is a child friendly cafe with free wifi.

Spill The Bean – Sunset Mall

Ola, the owner of Spill the Bean has apparently been stalking me through my blog for a while, so it was fantastic to get an invite to go visit the newly opened shop which is located on a sunny corner of Sunset Mall on the Beach Road.  This is a place for real coffee fans, on the blackboards with single origin coffee from Raw freshly ground and brewed to order.  An ardent coffee fan Ola has included a wide range of different coffee options for her clients to taste with firm favourites such as a Latte or Cappucinno and the more unusual including cold pressed coffee I want to try cold date brew on my next visit, Mr Clever and Affogato which is a firm favourite of mine.  With an emphasis on healthy food which tastes good, I sampled a piece of banana load which was rich and indulgent to the taste, but light and airy in consistency.  Spill the Bean has a community feel and the team were very knowledgeable about the coffee as well as providing customer service including local delivery to office tenants and local residence and a coffee collection service for customers who want to pre order a takeaway from the Mall – just phone ahead and the guys will meet you at the car park with your order.  Hidden away in a corner is a quiet area for kids and their moms, three rocking chairs look like a great place to hang out and spend some quiet time or let the kids place with the toys.  Free Wifi and underground parking.

Elken Cafe – Dubai Marina

Recently opened and on day 44 when I visited, not that the staff were counting !, this is a Community Cafe with a Community Wall where you can post your comments about your visit which is a cool and reminded me of the wall in the kitchen of Al Maha. I was initially tempted to visit by a picture I saw on Facebook of a Carrot Cake in a jar, it looked cute and tasty and it was, essentially a deconstructed carrot cake it looked appealing though it came with a hefty price tag of 35 AED so is definitely one for sharing.  The menu is unusual with some great finds, I had a salmon pie which was made fresh to order, along with a bucket of french fries and a latte.  The pies are bound to be a hit as they are unusual and the salads which I saw being served to other tables looked great too.  The coffee is Lavazza and was expertly brewed by the barista.  Staff are extremely knowledgeable about the products and with two chefs, one from Sri Lanka and the other from Russia the kitchen is producing some interesting food including a wide range of bread and pasta which is made fresh on site daily.  Free Wifi. Over looking the far end of the marina and with some soon to be opened outside seating, this is bound to be a hit. Parking is at the rear of the building by Choitrims.

Caffe’ Trieste – JLT – Platinum Tower, Cluster I

Coming Soon !

It’s great to see entrepreneurs starting up their first business in Dubai and with the passion that all of the owners bring to their businesses I truly wish them every success.

Seen anything new or interesting opened recently, let me know and I will go check them out.
