Running of ideas of things to do with your visitors ? Fancying something new – then a trip on the RTA Ferry could just the thing for you !

I’ve often run around Dubai Marina and seen the RTA Ferry gliding by (unlike my running style!)  and thought about taking a trip on it some day.  A little research via the RTA website and at the ferry stop in the Marina gave me all the information I needed for the daily trips which start at either the Marina Mall or Al Ghubaib water transport station in the Creek and end up close to the Burj Al Arab.  These are return trips and details can be found HERE.

However, I seemed to remember seeing details for a special Friday trip which started at the Marina Mall and ended up at Al Ghubaib in the Creek.  Although I couldn’t find any information on this trip on-line, a quick call to the RTA confirmed that the trip still existed and started at the Marina Mall at 11.00 am on a Friday morning and would take approx 90 minutes to reach the Creek.

With this information a quick Friday plan was formulated.

  • The 11 am Ferry from the Marina to the Creek
  • Walk along the creek
  • Lunch somewhere quiet along the creek
  • Metro back to the Marina to pick up the car

We bought our tickets at about 10.30 am and then waited to board at just gone 11 am.  Wanting to take advantage of the great weather and cool breeze we chose to spend the entire journey at the back of the boat outside, but you can also take a seat in the fully air conditioned main cabin where you can also buy snacks and drinks.

After a short sedate cruise through the marina, the Captain opened up the engines and we started moving out towards deeper water taking in the views of JBR, The Palm and Dubai skyline of Financial Centre, Downtown Dubai, the Docks and the QE2 before slowing down again and heading into the creek.

We arrived at the creek about 90 minutes after departure, having taken lots of photos and having appreciated Dubai from a completely new angle.

This is a great trip for guests and residents alike – it’s great to get out into the fresh air and really interesting to see Dubai from the sea – it also gives you a real appreciation of just how big Dubai has become and a great opportunity to take some new photos.

On arriving at the Creek, we took a short walk through some of the Souqs and then headed to Al Bastikya for lunch at the Art Cafe before taking a short taxi ride to a metro station and the metro back to Marina Mall to collect the car.

Tickets can be purchased on the day of travel at 75AED for Gold class and 50AED for Silver Class and (50% discount for children aged 2 – 10). This is a one way trip from the Marina to the Creek.

Details of the daily trips are HERE
