So near and yet so close !! I start my climb tomorrow – and can’t wait !

I’m writing from the garden of the hotel in Moshi surrounded by trekkers who have either done the climb – some successfully and others not.  Or, like me, are excited to do the trip in the next few days or so.  It’s a really friendly hotel – the kind of place where you can sit alone or join a group and know you are going to have great discussions over a beer or two.

Today I have plans to visit a coffee plantation and grab some lunch in a coffee shop in Moshi, then hit the pool for some sunshine and beer before meeting up with my fellow climbing companions – as yet unknown – apart from there will be 2 guys and 1 lady.

Also on my list of things to do is have a briefing about the trip at 5pm and to get the last few bits of my kit – sleeping bag and walking pole then I’m ‘hot to trot’ and ‘good to go’

Dinner tonight is at the hotel with an Armenian guy who I met this morning over breakfast – he’s in his 60’s and has just discovered traveling and seems like an interesting guy.

Yesterday I got my SIM sorted out – it took about 2 hours – which was way longer than I anticipated but I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised as everything seems to work here pole, pole (slowly slowly) or Shway, Shway !  With a bit of luck I’ll be connected to BBM, Twitter etc so will tweet as I walk if at all possible.

I can’t believe how well I am sleeping here, despite being in such a noisey room I’m sleeping really well – in fact last night I missed dinner as I took a short nap and woke late – must be all this beautiful fresh air.

Shopping in Moshi yesterday was interesting – I went to the largest supermarket which was no bigger than a small 7/11 shop but had everything I needed – a jar of peanut butter, some coffee and a coffee mug 😀 (you can take the girl out of Dubai – but you can’t take the coffee love out of me !)

Here’s a little infographic with a bit more about my trip in pictures 😀

I can’t tell you how excited I am to start my walk tomorrow – I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time and finally 1 more sleep and it’s here 😀

Til then Hakuna Matata 😀 and Jambo
