I have a bit of a secret to share -it’s a pleasurable secret and I indulge in it at least once a week and more if I can and I often indulge alone but have been known to share !
Have I got your attention yet ? Good ! Any my secret ? Ice-cream 🙂 I’ve sampled lots of ice-creams over the past few years, particularly in Dubai where the weather seems to shout ‘perfect weather for ice-cream’ on most days – ohhh so tempting !
Anyway, when I do indulge in ice-cream it’s mostly Haagen-Dazs – Salted Caramel which was released sometime last year and is my absolute favourite, with strawberry cheesecake coming a close second. The lovely people of Haagen-Dazs recently invited me to their shop (yes an ice-cream shop!) to sample some of their new flavours and to sample some treats from their menu! This was a tasting I simply could not turn down !
Being the coffee fan that I am, I started my visit with a Caffee Affogato a scoop of rich vanilla ice-cream over which you pour a shot of hot espresso – whoever invented this needs a medal ! – It’s like an adult version of the cola float I remember from my childhood (a scoop of ice-cream served with coca cola poured on top)
Continuing on the coffee theme and managing to combine this with my love of salted caramel I then chose a Salted Caramel Latte. Rich and indulgent this is certainly a sweet treat, imagine drinking liquid salted caramel ice-cream warmed and with a shot of great coffee and you have me hooked.
From the menu I then chose the Dessert Journey inspired by classic desserts from around the world – Crème Brûlée, Dulce de Leche, Banoffee and Strawberry Cheesecake, served in 4 individually prepared glasses – each glass served with a scoop of ice-cream, a rich sauce and a different crunchy or fruity base. Each glass was beautifully thought out and put together – with my favourite being equally split between the Dulce de Leche and the Banoffee.
After indulging in the above (I did share !) I also sampled the Mint Chocolate ice-cream. I must admit – this is one that I would not normally choose – but the combination of creamy vanilla ice-cream infused with fresh chopped mint leaves and dark chocolate chips was a pleasant surprise and was very refreshing after the sugary treats sampled before.
On the menu and for another tasting perhaps were treats including waffles and pancakes all served with fruit and ice-cream, as well as a range of semi Freddos, Assorted chilled and hot drinks , coffees and shakes, plus baked goods including croissants, cakes, muffins and cookies. On my next visit which is already planned for later this week, I and a few friends are going to try the Haagen-Dazs fondue which includes scoops of ice-cream, melted chocolate (dark or white), fruits and patisseries – an indulgent treat fit for ‘ladies who lunch’ LOL
Of course, you can always visit the shop for a regular ice-cream treat – a scoop (or more) of ice-cream – there are 18 flavours to choose from, plus 3 sorbets, choose a side order (think cones, waffles, brownies etc) and then add a sauce or topping.
I have to say, I would visit again just to sample the coffee menu too – there seriously is something in the shop for all tastes.
Thanks to Haagen-Dazs for inviting me to the tasting, you’ve certainly opened my eyes up to some new chilled treats 🙂
